Limbaugh on Obama: ‘let’s face it, he’s Black…’

July 25, 2009 · Posted in Race

No, seriously, he really said it:

As Oliver Willis points out, you’d think El Rushbo was diagnosing the president with a fatal illness.

Ironically, Barack Obama has been called “the least angry Black man in America,” and indeed by being essentially the Black Mister Rogers (or perhaps more applicably, the Black Fred Astaire,) he has been able to navigate the spike-filled playing field of race and politics to get elected first to the Senate in Illinois, then as the Senator from Illinois (and only the fifth Black U.S. Senator) and then to the presidency. Had he been otherwise, and showed the slightest hint of being affected by his race, he would have been finished. That’s why the Reverend Wright controversy was so potent — it had the potential to make some, maybe most, white voters see Obama as one of “them” — the Michael Eric Dysons, the Tavis Smileys, or worse, the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons, who  are always lurking, seething with resentment against white America, and waiting for the opportunity to get payback. Well Obama isn’t any of those guys, but on Wednesday, we found out that he understands where they’re coming from. Will that make white America uncomfortable? Will the right allow the “teachable moment” to progress? Well… the officer himself, and his union, seem ready to move on, but clearly not all of the right will do so.

After all, isn’t it pretty clear that the fixation with the president’s birth certificate, his supposed “foreignness,” or even the whacked out notion that he might be an illegal alien, pushed by the doddering Watergate criminal G. Gordon Liddy and now by the increasingly unhinged Lou Dobbs, is almost enriely about race (and islamophobia, which is also almost entirely about race…) and about a certain small but tenacious fringe segment of the population refusing to accept that this n—er is in the White House?

Rush Limbaugh (like Pat Buchanan and the fringe winger blogosphere, among others) speaks for them.

Limbaugh is a putz. What’s really scary is how many people bother to listen to him.

I’m surprised that you have that much of the video posted, usually you libs only give 2 seconds of context, such as the title of this article which is “let’s face it, he’s black…” And, there is no reference to anything else El Rushbo says in the article! Why do you ignore the fact that Rush points out that Obama never talks well of our health care, the best in the world? And that Obama admitted that he didn’t know what happened during the arrest, but yet he apparently knew enough to say that the cop was acting stupidly, supporting the lie that it was racial profiling? That cop gave mouth to mouth to reggie lewis! Your article is a joke. Instead of trying to debunk anything that Rush says, you try to take it out of context, and just ramble on about everything every coherent American already knows: that Obama is the first black man to do so many things, like become president! Is this the only constructive thing you can comment on about your beloved president? “Obama is so great! He’s done lots of great things like, um, be black…and become president! Did you know he’s not like those other controversial black guys like Wright and Sharton and Jackson? He’s not. He’s just really great. By the way, did you know he was the fifth black senator and the first black president? He’s the black mister rogers, and the least angry black man in America. This is what qualifies him as a great president!” You call this a blog? Do you really take yourself seriously. What’s the point? El Rushbo had so much more substance in 30 seconds of that video than you did in your whole article. The president needs to stay the hell out of private police affairs. Also, do you not realize that there was a call made by the neighbor reporting two men breaking into the home? How was the cop supposed to know that the professor was not just saying everything was fine under the duress of the potential real criminal waiting inside for the cop to leave? Cops have to follow protocol, and protocol is to make sure that there is no second man to make sure everything is really fine and that the professor is not just saying everything is fine under gunpoint to the cop goes away. You tried to make Limbaugh look like an idiot, but you ended up embarrassing yourself. Once again, in context, Rush Is Right. And with our president trying to bring about all these socialist policies at light speed, I hope he fails too.

    Mike,

I love it when a commenter reveals himself. You wrote all of those words … that veritable word goulash, and nowhere in your lengthy rant did you explain what point your leader, “El Rushbo” could have possibly meant by “let’s face it, he’s black.” Suppose we turn that around, shall we, and bookend Sgt. Crowley by saying, “let’s face it, he’s white.” How would that grab you? Oh, that’s right, you would respond to it however Rush told you to. Ditto, right?

“Let’s face it, he’s black?” So therefore, what? He’s black, and therefore he “shouldn’t have inserted himself in local affairs?” So if he was white, that would be ok? He’s black, therefore he denigrates the U.S. “best healthcare in the world,” which ranks 37th in delivery and 1st in cost, and which has delivered the highest infant mortality rate in the western world? If he was white, he’d feel differently? And by the way, only a Dittohead would think our healthcare system is fine the way it is. Maybe YOU love and worship your insurance company, as your dear leader, El Rushbo tells you to, but those of us who think for ourselves beg to differ.

Keep being a dittohead, Mike. It really suits you. You have faithfully absorbed all of the talking points, and can now collect your winger identity card.
