The Huffington Post has a story up about speculation that Rushton Limbaugh is part of a group seeking to buy the NFL’s St. Louis Rams:

Limbaugh — a native of Cape Girardeau, Missouri — first mentioned his interest in owning the NFL team this spring, and has now teamed with St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts to submit a bid.

Limbaugh released the following statement to KMOX radio:

“Dave and I are part of a bid to buy the Rams, and we are continuing the process. But I can say no more because of a confidentiality clause in our agreement with Goldman Sachs. We cannot and will not talk about our partners. But if we prevail we will be the operators of the team.”

The Rams franchise is not necessarily for sale but the owners have expressed an openness to receiving bids.

Really? From Rush Limbaugh? That’s interesting. And I wonder how African-American and non-right wing fans in St. Louis who DON”T want the country to fail would feel about having their team associated with Mr. “Donovan McNabb is an affirmative action quarterback?” Will he issue an El Rushbo edict demanding that the team check of immigration status of any Hispanic players? Or perhaps as the new owner, he could finally implement his call for a return to segregated buses … Ooh, I got it! He can change the Rams’ theme song to “Donnie the Magic Negro?” The possibilities are endless…

So if Limbaugh really does buy in, wouldn’t that make him the Marge Schott of pro football? You remember Marge Schott, right? No? Here’s you go:

Margaret Unnewehr Schott (August 18, 1928 – March 2, 2004) was the former managing general partner, president and CEO of the National League’s Cincinnati Reds franchise from 1984 to 1999. She was the first woman to buy a baseball team rather than inheriting it. [1] She is perhaps most well known for her controversial behavior during her tenure as owner of the Reds, which included slurs towards African-Americans, Jews, the Japanese and gays. She was banned from managing the team by the MLB from 1996 through 1998 due to a series of statements sympathizing with Nazi party leader Adolf Hitler; shortly after, she sold the majority of her share in the team.

Rush, meet your future.

UPDATE: The WaPo’s Mike Freeman (who in his column calls Rush a “pungent bowl of stark raving bigoted lunacy,” finds some other damning possibilities

Limbaugh is going to change the name of the team from the Rams to the Nappy-Headed Hos.

Of course I know Don Imus said that but it still fits.

And somebody lock up the Rams’ painkillers, stat.

When the Rams go 1-15 Limbaugh will blame it on the liberal media.

Or ACORN.

“Look, let me put it to you this way,” Limbaugh once said on his radio show, “the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”

Hey, and if the Rams players get hurt: it’ll be PILLS FOR EVERYBODY!!!
