Will the Cablinasian community rise to Tiger’s defense?

Tiger-frown

**UPDATE: More blonde bombshells for Tiger … details at the end of the post. (sigh) **

An AP article by a reporter named Jesse Washington states that Tiger’s multiple flings with non-black women are causing agita within the African-American community. Who knew that black people were still trying to claim Tiger Woods? Didn’t he opt out, like years ago, on “Oprah?”

When three white women were said to be romantically involved with Woods in addition to his blonde, Swedish wife, blogs, airwaves and barbershops started humming, and Woods’ already tenuous standing among many blacks took a beating.

On the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner radio show, Woods was the butt of jokes all week.

Hang on … those are supposed to be jokes on the TJMS? As in … the stuff they’re saying is meant to be funny??? Oh….

“Thankfully, Tiger, you didn’t marry a black woman. Because if a sister caught you running around with a bunch of white hoochie-mamas,” one parody suggests in song, she would have castrated him.

“The Grinch’s Theme Song” didn’t stop there: “The question everyone in America wants to ask you is, how many white women does one brother waaant?”

You’re seriously saying these are jokes, right? And how did the author forget to square the circle by getting Michael Baisden’s take, too? After all, they are our new Al and Jesse (official spokesman for The Black Community, I mean …) Sorry, back to the post …

The darts reflect blacks’ resistance to interracial romance. They also are a reflection of discomfort with a man who has smashed barriers in one of America’s whitest sports and assumed the mantle of the world’s most famous athlete, once worn by Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan.

… But Woods has declined to identify himself as black, and famously chose the term “Cablinasian” (Caucasian, black, Indian and Asian) to describe the racial mixture he inherited from his African-American father and Thai mother.

So will the Cablinasian community step forward and defend one of their own? Will this scandal cause a Black-Cablinasian rift? Or a Black-Cablinasian-Caucasian-Asian quadrupal bi-pass? Only time will tell… And while Mr. Washington might have been the only black person in America surprised by Tiger’s taste in mistresses, the article does make some points that I think are true, including one black woman who was interviewed stating that if Barack Obama’s wife had been white, she would have thought twice about voting for him. I know about 20 black women who would say the same exact thing. Harold Ford Jr. found out the hard way during his run for the Senate from his home state of Tennessee back in 2006, that rumors of a black male candidate’s preference for blondes can be harmful among white voters, even if he’s as fair complexioned as Mr. Ford. But I’d wager that now that he has in fact confirmed the rumors that were alluded to in that infamous attack ad by marrying a white woman (after keeping the relationship under wraps for years,) Harold will have a tougher time selling his candidacy to black women in particular, who by the way, vote in larger numbers than black men, and the most upscale of whom are still not above rolling their eyes in the supermarket at the sight of a brotha and his blonde companion (or at any mention of Taye Diggs.) Still, rumors are flying that Ford plans to test the proposition as a potential carpetbagger in New York, where presumably, the racial waters are milder.

Of course, nowadays, many black women are turning the tables, and particularly at the upper end of the income and career ladder, are increasingly dating white men, so all’s fair (and plus, it really ticks off black men to know they’ve lost Halle Berry…) Besides, Barack Obama has made interracial the new black (except for Glenn Beck. For him, hating the white culture is the new black.) So maybe this whole thing is moot, and Tom and the gang will have to find something else to be “funny” about. After all, since Tiger Woods has never claimed to be black, how can he be harming black people by dating who he likes? The person Tiger has harmed here, I dare say, is the white lady he’s married to.

Meanwhile, Jesse Washington gets panned.

**And now for that promised UPDATE**

The London Daily Mail and News of the World serve up more Tiger dirt, if you can stand any more. The Mail claims that a cocktail waitress named Mindy Lawton is Tiger mistress number four, and that she, wait for it … thought they were in a relationship. Come on, sweetie? Seriously??? Read more about what Midey had to say about Tiger’s … um … assets, here. And the News of the World claims that in fact, poor Mindy isn’t girl number four, she’s naughty number nine… hey, there’s even a supposed Elin look-alike, though really, they don’t look that much alike … Oh, and mistress number 1, Rachel Uchitel? People mag reports she’s got a bit of the homewrecker jealousy. Last but not least, Star Jones has weighed in, cattily.

“My former boss might be a good choice,” Jones said on “The Insider.” “She wrote an entire book where she detailed her own affair and got paid a lot of money. She would be a very good choice. That would be like the pot calling the kettle black. I’m not sure she would be sympathetic, but she can’t be as judgmental.”

Meow!

Okay, I think one more week of this, and I’m taking back my earlier post about this scandal not hurting Tiger’s bottom line …

Nice shots taken at Tom Joyner and Micheal Baisden. I'm not mad at Halle or really any black woman that marries or dates outside their race. As long as they're happy and not doing it just because of skin color I don't care. Tiger is the new OJ but at least he didn't kill his ex-wife and her waiter. Yet lol. (Too soon?)

Ms. Reid, you don’t have to wait another week before taking back your comment that this continuing scandal isn’t hurting Tiger’s bottom line.

With the news today that his wife and kids have moved out of the mansion, along nearly hourly reports of yet another mistress/jump-off/side chick wanting to sell her story. Tiger’s reputation is in free fall and I strongly suspect that some of the very same companies who originally came to Tiger’s defense, are now quietly looking at ways of dropping Tiger from their advertizing line-up.

Prior to Tiger’s well concealed side life hitting the front page news and staying there, it was not unusual to see a commercial featuring Tiger on the sports channels a few times a day. Now – nothing.

Tiger was well within his rights to define himself as he wanted. Personally, I thought it was rather comical that Tiger came up with that ridiculous name of “Cablinasian” to describe himself. I’ve always said, that if anything even remotely negative was ever revealed about Tiger, he would quickly find out what America truly thinks he is. And given the fact that Tiger’s fan base is predominately white male, it doesn’t take an expert to predict that Mr. Cablinasian has already started to experience the “OJ effect” to his public image and eventually to his bottom line.

I can’t help but wonder if Earl Woods (Tiger’s father) were still alive – if we would be witnessing this spectacular burn-out of his son?
