Pictures of nooses faxed to Clyburn, Stupak **UPDATE**

UPDATE: A right wing blogger with a history of virulent posts about how “black churches” and “the Jewish vote” were responsible for “inflicting Barack Obama’s Marxism” on America denies he was responsible for the noose fax that was sent to Congressman Stupak, even though the fax contained text from a post on his site. See the noose fax here.

TPMDC reports both Congressman Bart Stupak, who has already been the target of death threats for voting for healthcare reform, and James Clyburn, the House whip, received faxes with nooses depicted on them, along with threatening messages. Here’s Clyburn discussing the incident on CNN:

Meanwhile, the reaction on the right is to shrug off the violence, call the outrage over it overblown, or try and turn the tables to say it’s the left that is violent, though they never explain how the left can be both violent and anti-gun/anti-war/anti-defense … Or the right is simply ignoring the story altogether, as sites like RedState and HotAir are doing. In other words, if you’re looking for a sense of decency on the right, quit looking.

Meanwhile, the threats to Democratic lawmakers are getting even more disturbing:

A coffin was placed on a Missouri Democrat’s lawn, another in a string of incidents against lawmakers after their vote Sunday on a health care overhaul.

Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-Mo.) had a coffin placed “near his home,” a spokesman said Wednesday evening.

This came after Rep. Tom Perriello’s (D-Va.) brother’s gas lines were cut, Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) received death threats and Rules Committee Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) received a message saying snipers were being deployed to kill children of those who voted for health care overhaul.

Several other Democrats have had threats leveled against them, prompting a closed-door briefing of Democratic members by the FBI, Capitol Police and the House Sergeant at Arms.

Where does this end?
