Epic Fail Award: GOP’s WV casting call seeks ‘hicky’ look

Remember that ad above? It’s running in West Virginia which the pundits said could be fatal to Joe Manchen, because it depicts regular dudes who like Manchen, but want to keep him from getting tainted in Washington (so they should vote for his opponent, rich guy John Raese, who got his money the old fashioned way … by inheriting it?) Well, about that ad…

Politico’s Mike Allen got their hands on the casting notice. Turns out it was shot in Philly, not somewhere in West Virginia. And turns out the “dudes” they were looking for were cast because they fit a certain profile:

“We are going for a ‘Hicky’ Blue Collar look,” read the casting call for the ad, being aired by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “These characters are from West Virginia so think coal miner/trucker looks.”

“Clothing Suggestions” included jeans, work boots, flannel shirt, denim shirt, “Dickie’s type jacket with t-shirt underneath,” down-filled vest, “John Deer [sic] hats (not brand new, preferably beat up),” “trucker hats (not brand new, preferably beat up).”

Doh!

The notice was provided to Politico, not surprisingly, by enterprising Democrats, who got it via old fashioned oppo research.

Check out the full casting notice here. Message to red America, your corporate friends might want your votes, but they might not exactly respect you…
