Rush capitulates (or, advertisers matter)

Ladies and gentlemen, the first ever, and I mean EVER… Rush Limbaugh apology.

Proof the Limbaugh has finally figured out that he’s in the age of social media, when a determined group of people banding together can slow down even a radio Titan whose show is force syndicated to the stations it’s syndicator owns. Rush? Welcome to the future. I guess those five advertisers who bailed on the golden microphone, the president of Georgetown rebuked him, Republicans began to gingerly creep away from him, and the possibility of a lawsuit was floated. And of course, Rush found himself facing down the president of the United States and basically every sane woman in America, elected and not.

I’m thinking Mr. Mays and his dad were starting to realize that boycott threats could spread to their other station properties and their advertisers. I’m thinking they probably had a talk with Rush and had the legal department write something up.

Krystal Ball, who initiated the petition that finally hobbled the unbeatable Mr Limbaugh, as well as the tens of thousands of propel who responded to her petition, or created their own campaigns, should be tremendously proud. But this should also be an object lesson I. The power of social media and coordinated effort. Even Rush can be beaten, and make no mistake – as tepid as his apology was, this is an uncategorical defeat for Limbaugh, second only in humiliation to the time he was denied entry into the club of NFL owners simply for being him, plus the time he was busted sending his made to score Oxy.

I’m sure he’ll be back, nastier than ever next week, but Rush knows in his heart that he got beat.

  4. Rupert says:

He will not like being associated with the word “capitulate.” He enjoys being called a pig, but this will hurt.

  5. Flo says:

Well it’s one thing to post a so-called apology on line, but will he do it on the air??? If saying that Sandra Fluke is a slut and prostitute was a poor choice of words, I wonder what words he really meant.

  6. MoneyWalks says:

If Rush were just any ordinary person he’d still be in jail for his drug crimes.

The irony of a pillhead ranting about birth control pills is too much.
