(Video) Veteran’s Day playlist: Dire Straits, ‘Brothers in Arms’ (with bonus track)

This is a very old song, which I first heard way back in the day at the close of an episode of “Miami Vice” — must have been in junior high school. If you’re not old enough to remember “Miami Vice,” never mind, just listen to the song. It always reminds me of veterans, and the sacrifices they make on behalf of us all. God bless our veterans, one and all; from all of our nation’s wars, whether World War II or Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan or Iraq. Here’s to you.

Bonus track after the jump …

“Brothers in Arms” is a song that can have many meanings. To me it sounded like the song of rebel forces fighting in the mountains somewhere in Latin America.

Later, it came to be a song about my mother’s suffering when she was dying.

And yes, now it’s about veterans of all wars while being anti-war itself. It’s one of my all time favorites and never fails to fill my eyes.
