Caller 1, El Rushbo 0
ThinkP has great audio of a caller owning Rush Limbaugh. The caller is a World War II veteran and a Republican, and he doesn't think much of the chickenhawk host's fondness for torture. Check it out.

The neocon crazy train rides again: Gaffney plays 'Hardball'
If you missed the performance on "Hardball" tonight by the almost comically paranoid Frank Gaffney (the man whose life is apparently devoted to tilting at Muslim windmills) you missed a treat like few others. David Shuster filled in admirably for Chris Matthews, and the only thing missing was that look of utter consternation that Chris tends to get on his face whenever a neocon speaks. Gaffney, who has created an entire organization to fight ... wait for it ... sharia law (which isn't being implemented in the U.S. ... yet) claimed, with all due seriousness, that:

1. The U.S. should have shot down that failed North Korean long-range missile launch, possibly restarting the Korean War and causing the annihilation of tens of thousands of South Koreans in the process. It's a thought echoed by the purportedly legit wing of the neocon press.

2. The North Koreans are developing what amounts to a "death ray" -- a super secret missile called an "EMP weapon" that can knock out all electronic devices and communications in this country, effectively bombing us back to the stone age! No, he really means it! This, the same North Korea that couldn't manage to launch a long range Taepodong missile ... that wasn't even secret because everybody knew about it in advance??? (BTW in case you're wondering, the whole EMP madness was debunked, like, years ago.)

3. Dick Cheney (of whome Gaffney declared himself a "member of the fan club" is right about the country being less safe, and we'll be even worse off if the Obama administration dismantles our super secret missile shooter-downer ... rays!!

4. Barack Obama, by using the word "respect" in a Muslim capitol!!!!! ... is speaking in a secret Islamist code and telling the world that he plans to cause the United States to submit to Sharia law!!! Seriously. He has already told people -- real ones, not the imaginary ones in his head -- that the U.S. Treasury Department is already submitting to Sharia.

I think I've figured it out. The neocons, who also said Saddam Hussein had developed wooden, pilotless drones that could deliver chemical weapons over the U.S., (and that he, not Tim McVeigh, blew up the Murrah building in Oklahoma) and who insisted that Ronald Reagan go to war with the Soviet Union which was going to nuke us into last week ... even as that country was busy collapsing ... are not only insane, and constantly in need of a Boogeyman to go to war with (I mean for other people to go to war with ... they don't DO fighting, themselves... too busy thinking up crazy stuff...) they're living in a warped, Twilight Zone episode of "The Jetsons," in which Mr. Spacely isn't just mean, he's trying to kill you, and make you submit to Sharia law...

Watch the segment, and pay close attention to the incredulous look on fellow panelist David Corn's face:

Medic!

Meanwhile, the cons, having learned nothing from Iraq, are already calling for regime change in North Korea. Seriously.

UPDATE: Newt bugs his eyes out and calls for the FRIKKIN LASER...!

El Desperado
I listened to as much as I could stand of Rush Limbaugh (talent on loan from the Devil) this afternoon, and I have to admit, it was pretty funny. Limbaugh launched into about a 15 minute tirade against Harry Reid, Tom Harkin (who speculated hilariously about El Rushbo's possible return to drug use yesterday) and other Congressional Democrats who have condemned his September 26 slur against American troops who oppose the president's Iraq policy. Rush said last week that any troops who speak out against the Iraq war as being fought under the direction of Mr. Bush are "phony soldiers." Since then, Democrats have been excoriating him, taking full advantage of the rank hypocrisy on display by a man who has never served his country, took draft deferrments during Vietnam, and who lambasted Moveon.org for coining the Blackfive blog phrase "Betray-us" in an ad criticizing the P.R. flacking of Gen. David Petraeus, Bush's man in Iraq.

So today, Rush desperately tried to turn the tables on the Dems, accusing them of trying to reverse their irrelevancy by attacking him, and even comparing Harry Reid to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and a soldier who stars in a new Internet ad denouncing Rush's comments on behalf of VoteVets.org to a suicide bomber ... says Rush:
"This is such a blatant use of a valiant combat veteran, lying to him about what I said and then strapping those lies to his belt, sending him out via the media and a TV ad to walk into as many people as he can walk into. This man will always be a hero to this country with everyone. Whoever pumped him full of these lies about what I said and embarrassed him with this ad has betrayed him, they aren't hurting me they are betraying this soldier," Limbaugh said.

lord have mercy...

Rush is desperate, I'd wager because at long last, he has waded into a controversy from which he cannot wriggle out, cannot stop the curtain from falling back, cannot retreat before being fully exposed for the rank hypocrite he is. Finally, it has been made plain for all to see that Rush -- who once had sole ownership of the airwaves our troops are fed, Armed Forces Radio -- really doesn't give a rat's ass about the troops. In fact, he has use for them, only in so far as they serve as willing props for his masters in the White House and the GOP. In short, Rush is a White House stooge and Party hack, and the soldiers he claims to be the champion of are nothing more than political cannon fodder. It's when they start thinking things through that they become the enemy, just like the Democrats, just like the "drive by media" and just like anyone who dares to criticize George W. Bush.

Rush, who is every bit a coward and chickenhawk, ought to just apologize, rather than doctoring the podcasts (seriously...) to try and cover up his statement, and rather than attacking others who are raising legitimate criticisms of him.

But he won't. He can't. He has too much to lose.

Rush skated on the whole drugs and foreign sex trips vibe, but if his die-hards ever start to doubt him on matters of patriotism of military might, well, they just might start asking some uncomfortable questions about their lovable, lisping windbag of an airwaves leader... ahem...

Meanwhile, the Dems send a letter of condemnation to Mark Mays, who runs Clear Channel, which incidentally, owns Jeff Christie's ... er ... Rush's show -- (hm ... no wonder he's on so many stations ... his bosses OWN the stations ... kind of changes the context of his primacy in radio... on his own merits, I wonder how prolific El Rushbo would be...)

UPDATE: Mark Mays responds to the Dems, saying essentially, "free speech, bitches." Full letter here.

War czar on draft: could be a keeper!
General Lute, the only guy willing to take that god-awful war czar job (read "latest Bush fall guy for pending Iraq failure") says it might be worth looking into a military draft. Got to feed the beast, you know. The money uote from White House deputy national security adviser Lieut. General Douglas Lute:
"I think it makes sense to certainly consider it and I can tell you, this has always been an option on the table."

"But ultimately, this is a policy matter between meeting the demands for the nation's security by one means or another."
A refreshing bit of honesty. And you know what? I'm for it. Open the draft rolls. Suck in every child of every chickenhawk neocon, starting with anyone related to George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Bill Kristol, then work your way down from there. Every keyboard thumping "war blogger" who has never even considered going to war personally, and then we can get to the rest of us. Short war, then...

Make campaign stops, not war
Mitt Romney's sons are serving their country, by trying to get their daddy into the White House...
(CNN) – At a campaign stop in Bettendorf, Iowa Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was asked whether any of his sons were enlisted in the military and what they were doing to “support the war on terror.”

“The good news is, we have a volunteer army, and we’re going to keep it that way,” the former Massachusetts governor responded. “My sons are all adults…. They’ve made their decisions about their careers and chosen not to serve in the military and I respect that decision.”

The question came from a reputed war protestor while Romney was discussing Iraq. The presidential hopeful continued his answer by calling for a “surge of support” for those enlisted and their families.
Can't you jusr hear the patriotic marching band? I think it's playing the old timey tune, "Summer of the Blue Blood Chickenhawks." Watch Romney take it to the streets here.

Want more Romney boys? Voila!

Chickenhawks for Gitmo
Mitt Romney wants to double the size of Guantanamo, use "24" style torture, and fight to the last American in Iraq. Too bad he didn't have that fighting spirit back during the Vietnam War... surprise surprise ... is John McCain the only Republicans alive who isn't a rank hypocrite when it comes to the war?
