Blogging biz: Salem buys Hot Air
According to Mediaite, Salem Communications (the right wing/evangelical Christian media outfit to whom Cathy Hughes and her son sold the Radio One station I used to work for in Miami,) has bought HotAir.com, the conservative blogchild of Michelle Malkin. No sums were reported, but the sale puts Salem in control of two large-sized conservative outlets, including HotAir and TownHall.com. Salem also runs Lou Dobbs’ radio show and Bloomberg news in this market, and they seem to be making a push to become a bigger player in the right wing media game. Interesting …
Curses! Drudged again!
It’s been a long time since I’ve checked the Drudge Report — the onetime “unofficial assignment desk for America’s newsrooms” that ruled the Internet news link world what seems like ages ago. Lately, Drudge has been surpassed by other right wing voices, with Sarah Palin’s Facebook page doing to him what Glenn Beck has done to Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh (replace and outshine.) So when the Mattster comes up with a breaking news bombshell, it’s kind of newsworthy just that anyone’s paying attention. Especially when that bombshell is dead … wrong. In another sign of detente between Fox and the White House, Major Garrett has landed an interview with President Obama, according to the Drudge Report. It will take place next week in China.
Drudge wrote: “Obama Grants FOXNEWS Interview, DRUDGE has learned; Major Garrett will conduct interview in China next week …”
That would be quite a reversal from the war of words between the Obama administration and Fox just a few weeks ago.
UPDATE: A White House official tells POLITICO that the report is “not accurate.” “We’ve not committed to doing any presidential interviews during the trip to Asia with any outlets at this point,” the official said.
Too bad Calderone didn’t score a screen grab. Drudge has since deep sixed the headline — wiping it from the memory hole altogether (not even a little link left.) Oh well. Apparently, TVNewser fell for the phony scoop, too.

Support your local ReidBlog! Voting is now open for the 2009 Florida Netroots Awards. The Reid Report is nominated in a couple of categories: best national blog, and best professional blog (I’m up against stiff competition in both categories, including the Florida for Obama campaign…)
As for recommendations, I voted for my boys at FLA Politics for best state blog, the good folks at SouthFloridaDailyBlog (who give me lots of link love) for best local blog; I went with my fellow Harvardian Dave Aronberg for best candidate site and netroots candidate of the year and Giancarlo Sopo for best new blogger (for Generation Miami.) I also supported Ken Quinnell for activist of the year, The Daily Sift, for best ongoing series, Fair Districts Florida for best online campaign, and for the Progressive Hall of Fame,I went with Kirk Wagar, because in my opinion he was one of the keys to Barack Obama winning Florida — he was in early, and stayed true to the end, (tough call there between him, Steve Schale, and Teddy Johnston.) I’m not as familiar with all the other entrants, and there are lots of other great candidates (Eric Jotkoff of the Florida Dems is one…) but definitely planning to check them all out.

UPDATE: Okay, Floridians, don’t take me too seriously just because of the 2000 election — vote ONCE (and for me..)
