What’s your favorite Super Bowl commercial?
Most of them pretty much sucked, IMHO, but here are a few good ones:

Miami PBS affiliate to host live Haiti forum TONIGHT
WPBT, the main PBS affiliate here in South Florida, is hosting a live, one-hour forum, “WPBT2’s Pulse Presents: Haiti, A Community Conversation,” tonight at 8 p.m. on the ongoing crisis in Haiti. Viewers will get the chance to call in and talk about their personal experiences and stories in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.
The forum will be streamed live on WPBT’s website, (information on the live stream will be posted here,) and those wanting to comment on the program via Facebook can do so here.
If you have friends or family (or yourself) who has a personal story to tell, please join in. Miami is central to the Haiti story, given that South Florida is home to more Haitian-Americans than any other community in America. Let’s be heard.
Monday TiVo: General Larry Platt to perform on ‘The View’
“Pants on the Ground” goes daytime Monday. Set your TiVo or DVR now so you don’t miss it! In case you haven’t gotten with the Idol hit (with a great message) yet, here you go. Oh, and here’s a pretty good re-mix. And here’s the Neil Young version, as performed by Jimmy Fallon. Hilarious, much-needed comic relief! (And General Larry just might finally end a really ugly, ridiculous fashion trend once and for all! Here’s hoping…)
There goes Sunday

George Stephanopoulos will give up discussing important issues facing the nation and world on “This Week” — which at this stage is such an infinitely superior show to the weak “Meet the Press” starring Dubya’s pal “Stretch,” that it’s really not worth Tivo’ing both shows anymore — to do cooking segments and interview muppets, reality show winners, and cast members from “Glee.” Good luck with that, George. In case you missed it: chickenhawk Tancredo punked by Kos
Tom Tancredo walks off the set of “The Ed Show” (with David Shuster sitting in) after military veteran Markos Moulitsas calls him out on his weaseling out of Vietnam “for mental health reasons” after his two prior deferments ran out. Tancredo was a pro-war student activist at the time. (ahem.) BTW, the discussions was actually about healthcare. Watch:
Chris Matthews vs. the Neocons, round two
In case you missed it, tonight, Chris Matthews went on night two of his tirade against neocons who are all for war, but not for fighting. Watch:

In case you missed it: Ron Reagan Jr. (and Chris Matthews) vs. neocon Frank Gaffney
Fresh off his black tie fete for our four times draft deferred, hawkish former vice president, Dick Cheney, and his former deputy, the still-convicted Scooter Libby, (in which Dick Cheney accused the Obama administration of “dithering” on Afghanistan,) Frank Gaffney tried to give as good as he got on “Hardball” yesterday, even telling the son of the president Gaffney purportedly idolizes that Ron Reagan Jr’s father “would be ashamed” of him. But in this clip, watch as Chris Matthews serves him up, and Ron Reagan proves that he really is the son and namesake of America’s John Wayne president:

Of course, behind the above thumping is the very sobering fact that Mr. Gaffney was among a coterie of neoconservatives who served George W. Bush that pre-cooked meal that was the Iraq war, costing more than 4,000 American servicemen and women their lives, not to mention hundreds of allied troops and countless thousands of Iraqis. Ronald Reagan, meanwhile, essentially silenced the neocons, most of whom worked for his administration in some capacity, mostly nestled within the Department of Defense, because they couldn’t stop themselves pushing for him to go to war — and that would be thermonuclear war — with the Soviet Union. The simple, unmitigated hilarity of Tom Delay
Watching Tom Delay — the money laundering, birther, oddly not currently imprisoned former House majority leader — shaking his stiff old hips in high heels on “Dancing With the Stars?” Priceless. If you missed it … you really missed something special. I’ve never watched even one minute of this show before, and may not watch another, but tonight made my top twenty funniest damned television viewing experiences of all time. My husband and I laughed our asses off. Meanwhile, The Hill tries to put the indescribable into words
Opening with B-Roll footage of DeLay cracking a bull whip and leaping into the air, the pre-taped practice dancing sessions showed DeLay in high waisted pants and heeled shoes, telling cameras that he looked forward to getting in touch with his “feminine side.”
“I know that if I want to do well in the Cha-Cha, I’m going to have to vote with the Republicans and party with the Democrats,” he said.
On stage, DeLay’s Cha-Cha, danced to the classic rock tune “Wild Thing” opened with a provocative solo rear shake by the former congressman, followed by a full-stage knee slide. He and his dance partner then broke into a respectable Cha-Cha down the stage, complete with a wink from DeLay for the judges, before finishing with a flourish.
… As one judge said to DeLay after the contest, “you’re even crazier than Sarah Palin!”
But of course, words are inadequate. Watch for your very own self:
See that? That’s why I don’t watch primetime network TV (except for “Lost” and “The Unusuals.”)
Shameless self-promotion: Joy on ‘Issues’ tonight
We taped the show this afternoon, so if you’re in the South Florida market, check it out tonight on WPBT 2. Justin Sayfie and I were on to talk about Jimmy Carter’s statement about Barack Obama and race. It should be online by tomorrow, so I’ll post it for the non-South Floridians.
Happy Friday!
UPDATE: Here’s the video
Shameless self-promotion: Joy on Issues, Sept 4
I was on “Issues” this week with Sean Foreman (poli-sci professor at Barry Univeristy) and Daniel Ricker of the Watchdog Report, and of course, our host, the wonderful Helen Ferre. We discussed the Miami-Dade Mayor and Commission’s balancing act: slashing the budget while shelling out money to senior staffers and rich baseball team owners. Watch:
Next up was Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who did a great job defending the idea of healthcare reform, and tackled the idiocy over President Obama’s upcoming address to students.
